Using the Retail Store as a Marketing Medium

Paul P. Lainis
The Nielsen Company

The consumer makes 70% of their ultimate purchase in the store. Yet there is no way of monitoring the effect of in-store advertising targeting the consumer. Today, all established marketing mediums have an industry accepted metric that allows users to evaluate the effectiveness of their advertising spend. This session will present cutting edge findings of in-store marketing efforts conducted by The Nielsen Company and the P.R.I.S.M.S (Pioneering Research for In-Store Metric) Consortium. With P.R.I.S.M., marketing efforts within the retail store can now be measured much like other advertising mediums such as TV, radio, print and internet. This session will provide insights into the operational capabilities, applications and decision making that can be affected through P.R.I.S.M.
